Our homebase is the city of Rotterdam, boasting Europe's Number One port. The port of Rotterdam is also the Atlantic's premier port in terms of tonnage. In fact, it is the largest port outside Asia. Our network and client base in the maritime sector however stretches throughout the Benelux countries and is particularly strong in the socalled ARA-region: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp.
Antwerp and Amsterdam are Europe's second and fourth ports in term of tons handled. In general, Dutch and Flemish ports together account for a staggering 850 million metric tons of cargo handled annually. This makes the ARA-region one of the principal shipping hotspots of the world. Atlantico Business Development knows the shipowning community in this area, as well as the port authorities and of course many other companies active in the maritime sector.
Our office is conveniently located in the Rotterdam World Trade Centre, overlooking Coolsingel, the city's main business, political and shopping boulevard. "Coolsingel is in my blood," Arnout Nuijt, Managing Director of Atlantico Business Development, will tell you eagerly when you visit us. "My grandfather, who was in maritime insurance, used to work in this building many decades ago. Later my father worked across the street as a banker. And some time ago, I served the City of Rotterdam for many years as an international advisor in the Mayor's Office, under two consecutive mayors of different parties. That was in the historic City Hall, just one block north of my office."
Atlantico Business Development still counts the City of Rotterdam as well as numerous maritime companies in the port area and around Rotterdam among its clients, helping them find new markets, as well as promoting their business and opportunities. Naturally our business and poltiical network in ARA is huge.
As the largest economy of the world - and fast growing at the moment -, the US is a major market for our business. We are in touch with many US ports and maritime companies, such as stevedores and terminal operators.
Atlantico Business Development is well aware of the risks and opportunities for your business that trade disputes and local legislation might reveal. Business is booming at the moment and it is high time to join, if you have not done so already!
Presently we are rapidly expanding our network to all major US ports and we are at home in the country's main shipping hotspots, like Texas and other parts oif the Gulf, the East Coast as well as southern California.
Naturally we also built up our government contacts in Washington DC.
Canada's maritime sector is another one to watch. The recent CETA trade agreement with the Europan Union provides lots of opportunities for business.

Soon we expanded our activities to Spain. The Iberian Peninsula is one of Europe's largest shipping centres and home to many large and fast growing ports. All added up, ports in Portugal, Spain and Gibraltar together handle around 550 million metric tons of cargo per year.
We are in touch with the region's main ports, among which Algeciras, Valencia, Barcelona, Sines, Leixões, Lisbon, Huelva, Tarragona, Bilbao, Las Palmas, as well as with most of its maritime businesses.
Having been commercial representative in the Benelux of the Madeira Ship Register from 2015 to 2019, we are also proud of our contribution to the growth of the Portuguese flag, making Portugal the fastest growing European flagstate.
We are aware of many opportunities in the Iberian Peninsula, so let us know if you want to do business!
The Atlantic island nation of Cabo Verde is also in the DNA of Atlantico Business Development. This unique country, one of Africa's rare democracies, is well integrated in Europe's maritime network and has the potential of developing into a regional shipping hub.
We have founded and invested in CaboDutch, a bilateral Chamber of Commerce between the Netherlands and Cabo Verde. This is a project that we regard as our Corporate Social Responsiblity contribution, dedicated to the development of this small country.
